Choosing the right colours for UPVC windows and doors

Home > Choosing the right colours for UPVC windows and doors

uPVC is the best available material on the market today for windows and doors. It is fire & weather resistant, completely recyclable, energy efficient and low maintenance.  But what colour should you choose for your home? As unlike timber, you can’t change the colour unless you install new windows. Today’s blog explores different uPVC colour options and what you should consider when choosing for your home.

uPVC Colour Options

What many people don’t realise is that uPVC windows and doors actually come in an array of colour options; most people assume that they are just available in white (which is one of the most popular colour choices for uPVC as a result of it’s clean, bright and modern finish).

Although white is great, as uPVC doesn’t discolour over time and is very easy to clean, some people are put off by the ‘plastic’ look created by white, especially if they are used to a more traditional window material.

Timber Look Windows – Without The Maintenance Of Timber

So you have been sold into the many benefits of uPVC and understand that it is by far the best choice for your window and door solution, but you aren’t a fan of the white frames. In fact, you have quite a traditional older home and you want your window & door frames to be in-keeping with the style of the home. Or you have always preferred the timber appearance of more traditional windows.

The good news is that uPVC is so versatile, that it is available in timber finishes as well.  The best part about selecting a timber finish for your uPVC? Unlike real wooden frames, these frames don’t require any maintenance. You don’t have to repeatedly sand and re-stain uPVC.   You just simply wipe them clean every now and then.

Worried about your frames rotting? No need to worry with uPVC, you can have the appearance of traditional timber without any of the issues that comes along with it.

Contemporary, Modern & Stylish

So you’re looking for a more modern finish to your home. You’ve been checking out other buildings and consistently come across a darker aluminium frame and that’s the look that you want for your home, but without the expense or poor energy efficiency of aluminium frames.

uPVC not only comes in traditional finishes but an array of modern colours to add that contemporary feel to your modernised home. In fact, you have more options than ever to choose from if you are considering a darker frame finish.  Popular colours at the minute include Ash Black, Grey Aluminium, Silver and Anthrecite grey

How To Decide

Inside vs outside – remember your window and door frames will be seen from the inside and the outside of your home, so when you are considering your colour or finish options, think what would suit not only the look of the home from the outside, but your decor on the inside.

Double colour – leading on from our last point about the difference in your home from the outside vs the outside, this doesn’t have to be an issue. You can choose to have a different colour uPVC frame on the outside of your property to the inside. For example white on the inside to brighten the room, and a timber look on the outside to be in-keeping with the style of your building.

Type of home – you may decide on a different uPVC finish depending on the type of your home. If you are installing new windows in a more traditional, older property, a wooden finish may be more appropriate than a bright white or cream. This then keeps the integrity of the building, without compromising the other benefits that only uPVC double glazing can offer. On the other hand, if you are installing windows in a contemporary new building, maybe black or white is more suited to the look and feel.

Highly Weather Resistant uPVC windows

uPVC is highly weather resistant, meaning that even in harsh winters and very sunny weather, your uPVC window or door frame colour will not fade over time, and will continue looking as good as the first day it was installed.

You also don’t need to worry about any sort of maintenance to keep up that fantastic finish you spent hours pondering over, as uPVC requires little more than a wipe down with a warm cloth every now and then to keep it clean and looking like new.
