New Doors in Birkenhead, Fitted by a Firm from Ten Minutes Up the Road

Birkenhead is where the Wirral does most of its living, and its housing tells every chapter of the town’s story — Georgian townhouses around Hamilton Square, tight Victorian terraces off Borough Road and Park Road North, solid semis towards Claughton and new apartments rising with the Wirral Waters regeneration. Plenty of those homes are still opening and closing on tired, draughty doors with locks that wouldn’t slow anyone down. We survey the opening, explain what actually needs replacing, and put an honest figure in writing — no pressure, no games.

Birkenhead weather, kept on the doorstep

Live in Birkenhead

Rain that starts out over Liverpool Bay rarely takes long to reach CH41. When it rattles through the streets between Bidston and the docks, a composite door with double weather seals keeps hallways warm and dry — and stops the letterbox-rattling draughts that plague older terraced doors.

From Hamilton Square to the North End

Georgian elegance around Hamilton Square, bay-fronted Victorians near Birkenhead Park, brick terraces in the North End and modern flats by the docks — Birkenhead never built the same street twice. Whatever yours looks like, we fit the front door that suits it, and we do the same next door in Claughton and Oxton.

Secure front doors on busy streets

Live on Borough Road, Conway Street or near the approach to the Queensway Tunnel and you’ll know the traffic never really stops. A modern doorset with an insulated slab and compression seals takes the edge off the noise — and PAS 24 multipoint locking looks after everything else.

Perfect Wirral has been fitting doors, windows and conservatories across Birkenhead and the wider Wirral for nearly two decades. Every glazed door installation is FENSA-registered, fitted by our own employed team, and backed by a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee. Every door comes with PAS 24 multipoint locking, anti-snap cylinders and toughened safety glass as standard. Read our verified customer reviews or find out more about Perfect Wirral.

Doors in Birkenhead — Your Questions Answered

Still unsure? Ask us on your free survey.

How much does a new door cost in Birkenhead?

It depends entirely on the door. A straightforward uPVC back door costs far less than a top-spec composite front door, and multi-panel bifolds sit at the top of the range. Size, configuration, glass, colour and hardware all change the number.

That’s why we don’t publish fixed prices — instead we give you an exact, no-obligation written quote after a free home survey. Request your free door quote.

Composite or uPVC — which door is better?

Both are secure and low-maintenance. Composite doors have a solid insulated core behind a GRP skin — the warmest, toughest and best-looking option for a front door, with realistic timber finishes that suit the conservation streets around Hamilton Square. uPVC doors cost less and are a practical, hard-wearing choice for back and side entrances, colour-matched to your windows. Many Birkenhead homes pair a composite front door with a uPVC back door.

Do new doors need Building Regulations approval or a FENSA certificate?

All replacement external doors must comply with Building Regulations, including limits on how much heat they can lose. Where a new door is more than 50% glazed — French doors, patio doors and most bifolds — the installation falls within FENSA’s scope, and as a FENSA-registered installer (#34055) we self-certify the work and register it for you, so you get a compliance certificate without dealing with the council. Solid front doors are still fitted to the same Building Regulations standards. See the Government’s Building Regulations guidance for the full requirements.

How secure are your doors? What is PAS 24?

PAS 24 is the UK security standard a complete doorset has to pass — it’s tested against forced entry, lock snapping and physical attack. Our doors come with multipoint locking, anti-snap cylinders and toughened safety glass as standard, with police-approved Secured by Design upgrades available if you want to go further.

How long does fitting a new door take?

Most single front or back doors are fitted in half a day to a day. French, patio and bifold installations usually take one to two days depending on the opening and any structural work. We agree the schedule with you before we start and tidy up fully afterwards.

Which front doors work best for Birkenhead’s older terraces?

Most of Birkenhead’s terraced streets were built with timber doors that have long since been swapped for a patchwork of ageing replacements. A solid-cored composite door is usually the best-value upgrade — warmer, tougher and PAS 24-tested — and where a street keeps its Victorian character we can fit heritage styles with traditional glazing patterns. On busier roads like Borough Road the insulated slab helps with noise too. Your surveyor will walk the options through with you.

What guarantee do I get?

Every installation comes with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee (IWA), which stays valid even if anything happens to the company — so you’re covered long term.

How much maintenance does a composite or uPVC door need?

Very little. Neither ever needs painting — an occasional wipe with warm, soapy water keeps them looking new. It helps to lightly lubricate the hinges, locks and cylinder once a year and keep the threshold drainage clear. The door slab, sealed units and hardware are covered by our 10-year insurance-backed guarantee.

French, patio or bifold — which is best for a smaller garden?

Sliding patio doors are usually the winner where space is tight — the panels glide along a track and need no swing room at all. French doors suit narrower openings up to around 2.5 metres and give a traditional look, but need clearance for the doors to swing. Bifolds create the widest opening of the three, but need room for the panels to stack at one side. We’ll measure up and talk you through all three at your free survey.

Which areas around Birkenhead do you cover?

All of Birkenhead across CH41, plus Woodside, Claughton, Oxton, Tranmere, Rock Ferry, Bidston, Seacombe and the rest of the Wirral. See the full list below.
