The soffit is the board that sits underneath, closing the gap between the wall and the roofline. Soffits often include ventilation strips that let air into the roof space, which is important for preventing condensation and damp in your loft. Bargeboards are the sloping equivalent on the gable end.
Overcapping means fixing new uPVC over the top of your existing timber boards. It’s cheaper on the day, but if there’s any rot in the timber it gets sealed in and continues to spread unseen — and the new boards are only as sound as what they’re screwed to.
